The Music We Play

Line

Composition

Our orchestra consists of:
  mandolins (two sections)
  mandolas
  mandocello
  guitars
  double bass

"I particularly loved the movement from ’Adventures of the Duyfken’ and the Sonata by Robert Schulz. These two pieces had such contrasts within the music and gave the listener such vivid mind pictures."
Cathie, August 2009

All instruments of the mandolin family have their counter-parts in the String (i.e. Violin voiced) orchestra, but the tonality is entirely different, due to Tone-Colour and playing techniques.

Apart from the full orchestra, some of our members have also formed smaller groups. For instance the ’Serendipity Classical Guitar Quartet’ and our ’Duo Calace’, a mandolin and guitar duo, break up and enhance our main performances.

Some more recent pieces are written for mandolin orchestra and violin which adds yet another dimension to our group’s composition and is very much enjoyed by our audience.

Repertoire

We play classical and contemporary pieces from international and Australian composers, such as Richard Charlton, and Robert Schulz. Some numbers are originally written for mandolin orchestras, while others are arranged e.g. by Chris Keane, our conductor.
Music played includes Renaissance, Classical, Neapolitan, Spanish, Modern and Popular.
