The Melbourne FAME Mandolin Festival held January 2014
The Melbourne FAME Mandolin Festival was held at International House, Parkville, in the second week of January 2014. It proved to be very successful and part of its success was due to the wonderful conducting by our "team" of conductors, Robert Schulz from Perth and Stephen Lalor from Sydney. Both are accomplished composers and skilled instrumentalists as well as very patient (!) conductors and the participants of the Melbourne FAME Festival thoroughly enjoyed their conducting. During the week of rehearsing there were two in-house concerts with performances from several of the Australian mandolin orchestras as well as performances by small ad hoc groups and by WAYMO (West Australian Youth Mandolin Orchestra run by Robert Schulz) whose young members travelled with their parents primarily to perform in their in-house concert during the Melbourne FAME Mandolin Festival! And they performed beautifully which is a tribute to the work Robert Schulz has done to "upskill" this group of young musician!
