Perth International FAME FESTIVAL Sunday 8th July - Sunday 15th July 2012

The next FAME Mandolin Festival will be held in Perth, West Australia from Sunday 8th July to Sunday 15th July 2012 and hosted by the West Australian Mandolin Orchestra.

The festival is open to all those who play mandolin, mandola, mandolcello, classical guitar, double bass, and percussion (partners are also welcome!) and will feature a week of rehearsals in preparation for an orchestral concert open to the public on Saturday 14th July.

During the week there will be in-house concerts as well as many opportunities to participate in social activites and outings. Accommodation will be at Trinity College, a residential college of the University of  WA, which has excellent public transport access to Perth, Kings Park, Subiaco, etc.

Anticipated cost for single participants in standard student accommodation is approximately $850 which will include full board and accommodation. Higher levels of accommodation, including family units, will be available for those willing to pay a larger fee.

Two international conductors will be participating: Mark Davis from the USA, and Marco Ludemann from The Netherlands. Both are performers as well as very experienced conductors of mandolin orchestras. We look forward to their contribution to the festival.

The week will culminate in a Grand Concert, with Mark Davis conducting the world premier performance of "Poems from the Fridge" by Perth composer Rob Kay. This is a work for choir and mandolin orchestra in four movements. Mark is also bringing with him some new American scores. Marco Ludemann will conduct the Australian premier of Robert Schulz’s "Symphony of Season"’ for orchestra, oboe, timpani and percussion. This 30 minute work depicts the six seasons as understood by the local Nyungar people. The concert will also feature performances from leading musicians attending the festival. It will be a memorable event!

The last Perth Mandolin Festival was in 2003 and attracted players from Australia, Japan, Germany and New Zealand. It was a great opportunity to see mandolin music at its best, and 2012 will be no different!. There will be opportunities to work with Mark and Marco on an individual basis.
